Whether you’re new to blogging and have no idea where to start, or you’re experienced but struggling for content ideas, I’ve got you. Check out these 7 simple blog post ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
- A simple how to
Whatever your business does or whatever you’re an expert in, teach your audience. For example, if you’re a website designer you could do an article on how to design the perfect website. A title like this will drive traffic to your site because it’s similar to the sort of thing someone might type into a search engine when they want to start a website. Be careful with this sort of post not to teach someone how to do your job for you so they feel like they don’t need your services. Give away just enough that they know they need your knowledge, but not enough that they feel like they can do it on their own. It’s important to show off your expertise, and make sure to include a call-to-action at the end inviting your reader to employ your services, buy your product, or invest in whatever way benefits you.
- A list of ideas
Like this one. Lists like this are an easy way to get a lot of content out there and you can always recycle and pad out some of your content for future articles. List blog posts can be on virtually any topic, as long as it’s relevant to your brand or business and contains helpful and well-written content. There’s also no limit to the number of items you can include, so you could present 3 ways to make perfect cake icing, or the 100 best budget holiday destinations for example. Obviously bear in mind that your reader may not want to scroll through 100 different paragraphs, so make sure you section off the items if possible.
- Your story
Blog audiences love to get to know the person whose work they’re reading. It makes it more personal and relatable, and does the same for your business. Customers are far more likely to become invested in your brand if they feel like they know you as a person or they can appreciate how the business started. Everyone loves a backstory. These sorts of posts are especially beneficial if you can demonstrate some sort of hardship or development process – how you struggled through to get to where you are now, so your expertise and hard work are appreciated even more. If your reader can relate to your difficulties, they may empathise and be more willing to follow your story going forward, and they’re also more likely to purchase your product.
- Industry intel
As a business owner you are technically an expert in your industry, and if you feel like you’re not then a little research should give you the edge you need. Sharing a post about the latest or hottest tips for your industry is a great way to reach more viewers and hopefully more customers. The impact of this obviously depends on which industry you’re in, for example if you were a jewellery designer then your followers will predominantly be people who like the look of your jewellery. So instead of telling your readers how they can find the best quality metals for making jewellery, you might be better off posting about how you create your unique designs or what you do to keep on top of your skills, which shows your audience your expertise in the trade, in turn making your products appear more valuable. Take a look at what kind of accounts follow you on social media and decide the best approach to take based on your audience.
- A story with a lesson
Who doesn’t love a good teachable moment? If you’re willing to share any personal or business stories with a good lesson behind them, even if it’s just a snippet of wisdom, you’ll be sure to engage your readers. It’ll also make you more relatable as a fellow human. The trick here to making sure it’s relevant to your business or brand but doesn’t make you sound incompetent at the same time! Try to think of a time when you learned something the hard way, or tell your readers what hurdles you had to overcome to get to where you are today.
- A day in the life
This is a great one for creative businesses such as photographers and bakers for example. As much as people love seeing the finished product, it’s so much more interesting to see how you got there. Make sure to include the glamorous bits, and the not so glamorous. If you had to lie in some mud to get the perfect wedding photo for your client, capture this moment and share about how your work keeps you down to earth (aha ha). This sort of post could be easily coupled with an Instagram reel or a Tiktok video to increase the reach of your content and make it more viewer friendly.
- Why you need a… [insert your job title here]
This format is useful for online businesses like social media managers and virtual assistants etc. A lot of the time, especially when people are first getting started with their own business or social media presence, they think they can do it all by themselves (I’m speaking from experience here), when in reality it’s really difficult and no one can be an expert in every aspect of a business or online presence. Even most social media influencers have agents or branding managers. Advertising to your viewers why they need your expertise and services but in a constructive and persuasive way, without making them feel stupid or pressured, is definitely a refined skill, but well worth the effort as it’ll be sure to bring you more clients.
With hundreds of formats you could take when writing a blog post for your business, it’s easy to get lost in how to get your message or information out there.
